Evaluation of our PrEP clinic: RE-AIM

Objective

The purpose of the evaluation was to assess the current delivery of the PrEP clinic and identify areas for improvement using a mixed-methods approach.

We used  RE-AIM framework  a widely used implementation science model designed to guide the planning, evaluation, and reporting of health interventions. The RE_AIM has five dimensions

  • Reach – The proportion and representativeness of the target population that participates.

  • Effectiveness (or Efficacy) – The impact of the intervention on important outcomes, including potential negative effects.

  • Adoption – The proportion and representativeness of settings, organizations, and staff who are willing to initiate the intervention.

  • Implementation – The fidelity to the intervention as intended, including consistency, costs, and adaptations made in practice.

  • Maintenance – The extent to which the intervention and its outcomes are sustained over time at both individual and organizational levels.

High-level Evaluation Steps

1.

Process mapping with staff.

2.

Client chart reviews to assess reach, fidelity and effectiveness.

3.

Staff interviews to further understand PrEP process, what is working well, and areas for improvement.

4.

Client survey + interviews to understand client perspectives and experiences with program

Process Mapping with Sexual Health Team

  • Team mapped out PrEP Clinic steps and identified areas that require improvement.

  • Findings informed questions and area to dive deeper into during staff interviews and client interviews.
